January 2015

Hey Peeps! Happy Hump Day! I guess Wednesday will be the day I upload new post each week.

In today’s post I want to talk about taking control over your life in all areas. You all know by now that I am working towards becoming an interior designer. Hopefully I will begin at the Art Institute of Houston this fall. Unfortunately finances may delay that since I am no longer eligible for federal loans and pell grants since the degree will be my second undergrad degree. However, I have not lost faith in my vision, my gift, my passion, or myself. Instead, I have worked even harder to work towards my goal by pushing myself to do things I have never done before.

Touring the Art Institute opened my eyes to many things I had to learn about the industry. I realized at that moment interior design was far more than just filling a room with beautiful things (major AHA Moment for me!) It’s a science to designing a space and designing it right. To get me a head start on what I will be learning in the classroom (because I will be in the classroom soon “FAITH”) I started researching an teaching myself different elements of design.

Here, I was learning about one point perspective drawing. I am THEE worst drawer and must admit that this is my biggest fear about interior design right now. I’m putting a lot of attention towards it in hopes to become more confident in drawing.

Here, I was teaching myself a little about drafting and scaling a room. Again, not my strongest area but an important area to master.

In an effort to become knowledgeable in using fabrics and textiles, I purchased a sewing machine to teach myself how to sew. I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life until now. Right now I am practicing by making pillow covers and I find it quite soothing while I’m listening to music.

I share all of this with you all only to say YOU HAVE THE POWER AND CONTROL TO MANIFEST YOUR DESTINY. A lot of times road blocks come to throw us off track, but I encourage you to keep doing things that will get you to where you want to be. Although The Art Institute seems out of reach right now, I will continue to move forward. I’m a firm believer that our gifts and life callings will allow everything to line up in our favor. You may not see the end of the tunnel right now, but keep walking and working.

In the words of Oprah,“The only courage you ever need is the courage to live the life of your dreams. (Can’t wait to share this experience with you all. LIFE CHANGING!)

Cheers to conquering our goals and dreams in 2015!

Welcome to my journey and life as an aspiring interior designer. In this blog I plan to share my experiences, highlight design trends, things I’m loving and not loving, highlight other designers in Houston, TX and beyond, architecture, yummy foods, inspiration, and whatever else that comes to mind that will not only impact me positively, but you the reader as well.

In October of 2014, I had the most life changing experience that I’ve ever had! I attended the Oprah’s Life You Want Tour. (a blog about this experience is definitely coming!) Oh yea, did I mention I met Oprah too?!?! Since that experience, I have discovered the importance of doing the things you love and that brings you ultimate fulfillment. I am now focused on building a career in the interior design industry, because it truly is work that brings me joy. As a child, I loved to rearrange the furniture, decorate our home (with whatever I could find around the house), help my mother design weddings, and many other creative things that will take all day to list. Somehow in the mist of getting a good job and making a descent income and doing what I “thought” I loved, I still felt unfulfilled. Im now guided by INTENTION, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Check back daily or weekly for new post. I will upload blog post at least once a week. If there are things you want to see on the blog please contact me. One thing is for sure; I don’t have all the experience of an interior designer yet, but you are about to witness Determination, Faith, and the WILL POWER to make it happen!

Cheers to a successful 2015!
