August 2016

On August 18th I was afforded the opportunity to attend the Black Interior Designers Conference in Atlanta, GA. In addition to training and development from leaders in the industry, during this event 20 Top African American Designers are honored and celebrated for their excellence and contributions to the design industry.

This year, a new category was introduced titled “10 Emerging Designers to Watch”. To my surprise, my name was announced as one of the recipients. Wow! Very humbled to have received such an honor. This recognition has served as a reminder for me to always strive for excellence, and to be myself while doing it. THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.

Lastly, thank you for your support of me. Whether it’s reading my newsletters, reading my blogs, or trusting me to design your most sacred space; I am appreciative that you give me the opportunity to do work that I have been passionate about since the age of 7 years old. THANK YOU 🙂

Often times in interiors you notice that most homes are layered in neutral colors, as it is the safe and comfortable thing to do. I personally love neutrals as well, however I like to spice it up every now and then with bold colors. Choosing colors can be daunting when you’re not sure about what compliments what, or elements such as chroma and saturation. Hire a designer for that :). Nonetheless, when you work through all the elements of choosing colors, you’ll have a space that’s full of character and nostalgic. Take a look a these two inspiration boards that utilize bold color patterns while still creating harmony.
