The kitchen is normally a place thats either REALLY BROWN or REALLY WHITE. Rarely do people play with the idea of bold pops of color in the room where a lot of magic goes down… Can’t you tell I love food? LOL

There are many ways to accomplish pulling color into your kitchen without losing that comfort and welcoming feeling. You’ll see in the photos from are #WestCreekProject, we pulled in color with bold blue seating and fresh flowers. This can also be accomplished by adding colorful drapery to the windows, colorful kitchen tools such as knives and coffee makers, and wall art. In fact, do not be afraid to paint your cabinets a bold color. You’ll be amazed at the result.

So, the next time you are thinking about making changes in the heart of the home, don’t be afraid of color. Color can be your best friend if you’ll let it.

As many of my readers know, I have a key interest in the designing of bachelor pads. With most bachelor pads come the torn leather chair that was purchased from craigslist just for something to sit on, that somehow became the most loved piece in the entire pad. If there is one thing that the bachelor loves in their home, it is their throne! THE MIGHTY CHAIR!

So to my bachelor readers out there, here are a few tips for selecting the perfect chair to bring great style into your bachelor pad.

  1. Keep your textile options open. Leather isn’t always the best choice.
  2. Seek chairs that are less bulky but comfortable.
  3. Don’t shy away from color.
  4. Mix and match multiple chair styles in a room.
  5. Look for unique shapes and designs.
  6. Ensure the chair you choose is proportionate to the space.

Here are a few of my chair picks for the modern day bachelor pad. Thanks for reading. #BeTheBeauty

  6. Rearrange your current furniture layout.

These are 6 easy tips thats sure to keep you busy around your home the next few weekends!

Last week I had the opportunity to walk through a beautiful property built by Keith Malloy Construction as a potential staging project. While making notes through this home, I became very clear about why I love high ceilings. The photo is the study for this beautiful home. If you would love to purchase this beautiful, check it out here!

Double height ceilings add drama to any room. They feel both grand and luxurious. With the perfect setting for memorable oversized décor, double height ceilings provide limitless design possibilities. From curtains to wall paintings, every décor decision has to be proportioned to the height, width and length of the room. Some of my favorite spaces to see high ceilings are in the living room, dining room, and study.

With more vertical space in the room, adding large abstract objects and dramatic lighting accentuates the room’s personality. If you’re like me, then you love the amount of natural light that enters through the tall windows. Natural light increases your home’s sustainability, it’s healthy and economical, and brings energy to a room by bringing the outside in.

While high ceilings may be overwhelming, have fun and be creative with the space. Remember scaling and proportions matter.

The bathroom is always a fun and easy space to add some TLC. If you read my blog from last week, you will remember that I mentioned that bedrooms should have the aesthetic of a private spa. The bathroom is an extension of the bedroom and should also be tranquil and comfortable. Not to mention the magical touch of Chase Dowell Interior Design is a must also. 😉

Below are 3 quick tips that will bring tranquility and beauty to your bathroom.

  1. Accessorize. Towels, dishes, framed pictures, trays, florals, candles and other pieces will all enhance the look and ambiance of your bathroom. Accessories should also help keep your bathroom organized.
  2. Lighting. For ambient lighting, install a beautiful chandelier thats breathtaking but not over powering. Decorative sconces make the perfect task lighting in the bathroom for your vanity area. To achieve a spa like atmosphere, switch out your current lightbulbs for a softer bulb or install a dimmer.
  3. Hardware. Make your bathroom photo ready with bronze, chrome, or nickel finishes. Choosing finishes is personal and should reflect your personal style. Don’t be afraid to be corky and creative in this area.

The bedroom is where we spend most of our time in our homes…even if it’s just for sleep. For this reason, the bedroom should be a serene, comfortable, and stylish getaway from all the noise of the everyday grind. Your bedroom should have an aesthetic that makes you feel as though you have your own private spa right at home. Combine comfortability with style to achieve the perfect bedroom that reflects you.

If your bedroom is neither stylish nor comfortable, here are three quick tips to change that around:

Fix #1

What’s On The Bed?

Bedding makes all the difference in a bedroom. Place about 50 pillows on the bed in multiple layers. OK, maybe not 50 but you get the point right? Have some fun with the textures, hues, and patterns.

Fix #2

What’s on the wall?

Use a wall covering to bring edginess and life to your bedroom. If you have a headboard, be sure that the wall covering and headboard compliment one another.

Fix #3

What’s on the floor?

Rugs are always a staple in a room. Not only is this an opportunity to add patterns, textures or hues at the ground level, but it also adds that extra padding for comfortability.

“To see in color is a delight for the eye but to see in black and white is a delight for the soul.” – Andri Cauldwell

Ok. Let’s get to business.

There’s something about this classic pairing that will continue to translate century after century as a staple. With black and white, unity is achieved easily and effectively. Toss in a variety of textures and lines and you have a masterpiece at hand.

I love working with the color black because it is a mysterious color associated with formality, elegance, and power. Though simple in tone, it can be used in many varieties that can bring interest and conversation into a room. If you need a little convincing, check out these B&W design concepts that would make your home undeniably beautiful.

I mention all the time that the kitchen is the heart of the home. My personal preference is for kitchens to be light and airy, though I can still appreciate a kitchen that is more dramatic in feel and tone. When designing a kitchen, there are few go to paint colors that I love and keep on my list. Check them out for yourself!

Berkshire Beige by Benjamin Moore

Berkshire Beige

Berkshire Beige is the perfect neutral tone that not only works well in the kitchen, but practically in any room. Pair this color with white detailed trim work, white cabinetry, a black countertop, subway tile backsplash, and brushed nickel hardware; and you’re well on your way.

Woodlawn Blue by Benjamin Moore

Woodlawn Blue

Woodlawn Blue is by far one of those blues that creates an oasis or retreat like space. The soft tone of this blue works well in a transitional space thats clean with touches of modern day trends. Pair this color with urban stone colored cabinets, brass hardware, a herringbone patterned backsplash and a cambria quartz countertop for a kitchen that is refreshingly welcoming.

Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore

Stonigton Gray

Stonington Gray is one of my go to grays, as gray tones are still fairly popular. Stonington Gray is the perfect backdrop for a black and white kitchen design. I also recommend using this color for your cabinets if you want to lighten up your kitchen with a fresh and clean look.

Mount Saint Anne by Benjamin Moore

Mount Saint Anne

Mount Saint Anne is for the traditional lover who isn’t afraid of color. This color paired with rich cherry cabinetry and other neutral tones calls for a kitchen of comfort. This concept reminds me of home in Tennessee where I grew up. Southern comfort with an ounce of modern clean lines to compliment such a warm paint color.

Chealsea Gray by Benjamin Moore

Chelsea Gray

Chealsea Gray reminds me of simplicity. Its tone pairs well with those of nature. If bringing the outdoors in is your prerogative, then Chealsea Gray is ideal for you. This color will also work well as cabinetry color if you’re looking to spruce up your cabinets you currently have. I paired this paint color with a harbor tone cabinet, natural stone backsplash, and oil-rubbed bronze hardware.

White Dove by Benjamin Moore

White Dove

All white kitchens is a trend thats here to stay. White Dove’s creamy tone works well in the kitchen and makes the perfect backdrop for an all white kitchen. Clean, light, airy, and welcoming are the key ingredients for the perfect kitchen. White Dove provides each of these characteristics when used with plenty of natural sunlight.

Stone Harbor by Benjamin Moore

Stone Harbor

You can probably tell by now that I am a lover of gray kitchens. Gray, in my opinion, has the ability to keep a space current, even if you use it in a style thats not so modernized. Take for example this concept leans more towards a rustic style with dark cabinetry, a neutral stone backsplash, rustic lantern pendants, and oil-polished bronze hardware.

What are some of your favorite colors for the kitchen?

As always, #BeTheBeauty

During most home decor and design projects, homeowners play it very safe with selections. Of course the term “safe” is subjective. For someone who is afraid of color, they are going to stick to the neutrals. For someone who loves color, they couldn’t care less about how neutrals can be beneficial to holistic living. Wherever you are on the spectrum, there is one room that I always suggest taking a risk in and doing something that you normally wouldn’t do.

The powder room! Take a risk in the powder room! This room is small in size, but the perfect canvas to allow uncomfortable creativity off the leash. With bold patterned wall coverings, vibrant paint colors, decorative tiles, beautiful vanities, and decorative lights; the powder room can become the most loved room of your home. In fact, when people do something they normally wouldn’t do in the powder room, they start taking more risks around the home which truly makes their home reflect more of who they are.

Check out the inspiration boards below curated by Chase that show how risk taking in the powder room can be absolutely beautiful and functional.

It’s the beginning of the new year which means its time to spruce up your home! Even if you are not ready to fully rehab your living space, there a few things you can do to give your home a fresh start. Let’s take a look at this study that I assisted a new friend with.

Before, this space didn’t take into consideration the flow of the room. That flow includes traffic, the amount of natural light, open workspace, and the welcoming energy. My task was to shift this flow while taking into consideration the personality of the beautiful family that dwells in it.

After taking my directions into consideration, you can see that this room made a dramatic change with just a few easy changes. The desk was rearranged to face towards the window which made the space more welcoming and open, color was added with a new rug and chair which brightened the space, and organizing and decluttering made room for a great workspace.

What should you consider when giving your home a quick spruce-up?

  1. Whats the flow of the room?
  2. Declutter and organize.
  3. How is the room most utilized?
  4. Does it reflect your personality and who you are?
  5. Play off the flow of light.
  6. Rearrange your furniture.
  7. Enjoy your new room.
